Liposuction

While not a substitute for weight loss, liposuction can help remove excess fat that will not go away with other weight loss measures. Even those who exercise regularly and eat a healthy, balanced diet may experience these trouble spots. Liposuction from Sacramento plastic surgeon Dr. Christa Clark can help remove excess fat in targeted areas and achieve a slimmer, smoother body shape. Many people experience these stubborn pockets of fat in certain areas of the body, and liposuction may be a good solution to contour your body and achieve the look you desire.

Dr. Clark takes the time to get to know you and understand your lifestyle and your needs. She is committed to helping you achieve results you’ll love from your liposuction. Is Liposuction for You?

Dr. Clark offers either traditional/tumescent “lipo” at her Sacramento practice and can be performed on several areas of the body, including:

  • Hips
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Back
  • Chin
  • Arms

Liposuction is often combined with other plastic surgery procedures such as a tummy tuck or is included as part of a Mommy Makeover to enhance surgical results.

Liposuction Explained

Traditional Liposuction

Traditional liposuction is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Clark will create the incision in the targeted area and insert the cannula. Dr. Clark begins by injecting large volumes of diluted lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine, which shrinks capillaries. The tumescent fluid allows the fat to separate from the fluid, making it easier to remove the fat. Then, the fat is suctioned out using an aspirator. Once the fat is removed from the area, the cannula is removed and the incisions are closed using sutures.

Recovery and Results

Once the procedure is complete, the treated area is bandaged and a compression garment worn to encourage the healing process. In general, our Sacramento liposuction patients experience slight discomfort and bruising in the areas treated with liposuction. Patients should expect to keep the bandage on for 1 week and compression garments on for 3 to 6 weeks. Typically most of our patients are able to return to normal activities within a week or two of their liposuction treatment.
